In this course, participants will learn the overall operations involved in drilling an oil well

which includes introduction, people, drilling theory, rig equipment, rig components, roles and responsibilities, oral and hands on drilling rig demonstration. Once completed, students should be able to work safely and effectively among co-workers with a clear understanding of what’s happening around a drilling site as far as all operations are concerned.

·         Oil & gas characteristics

·         Introduction to hydrocarbons and reservoirs

·         Basic concepts of geology

·         Pressure and temperature

·         Formations and structures

·         Formation traps and tectonic plates

·         Structural and stratigraphic formations

·         Normal and abnormal pressures

·         The drill site & choosing a rig site

·         Preparing the location & moving equipment to the location

·         Rigging up, substructures and the rig floor

·         Raising the derrick or mast rigging up additional equipment

·         Offshore rig-up

·         Making a connection

·         Preparing for a trip

·         Tripping in and out of the hole

·         Tripping with either a Kelly, top drive or pipe racker

·         Annulus design (well bore)

·         Running casing

·         Types of casings

·         Drilling ahead

·         Drilling to final depth (TD) & laying down pipes
